For performance on a budget, the Zetec into Mk3 Escort swap makes perfect sense. I thought it would be a good idea to blog my progress whilst installing a 2 litre Zetec in my Mk1. Before starting the project, I researched as much as I could on the Internet, and dug out the old Classic Ford magazines etc. However, I had many questions left unanswered; is it really as easy as they say?
Q: What is a Zetec? The unit evolved into the Black Top unit Zetec - R, with a black, more rounded rocker cover with the Escort phased out and Focus introduced. Q: Do I need to modify the bulkhead on my escort when fitting a Zetec?

I realize that the Zetec has it's limitations but for now I have settled on the Zetec conversion for the following reasons; 1 It is a modern engine that offers aluminum construction low weighttwin cams, 16 valves and EFI. I love the Pinto but I think it is time to consider some more modern engine technology my opinion only!
